Although buying a house in Mexico as a foreigner is possible, it is necessary to obtain prior permission to acquire the property, which must be granted by the Mexican government. To request it, you must go to the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) in the Dirección General de Asuntos Jurídicos in Mexico. In the event that it is not possible for you to make the request in person, you can also carry out the process through a legal representative authorized by a power of attorney (R33).
